Lydia from SEND support has experience working in schools, with community organisations and delivering SEND child led interventions in the voluntary sector. SEND support was created to share expertise and provide tailor-made second tier support across multiple sectors, while still keeping that link with families and lived experience.

Like many professionals with a track record of innovation and creativity, Lydia found herself in increasing demand as a trainer, while juggling delivering support to SEND families and delivering in the charity sector. With an established record of quality, managing demand and choosing work that had the maximum impact for children and families Lydia need help to define the services she offered and what vehicle was best to support that delivery. Lydia met with Clare our Business Development Consultant to talk through options and was supported with a SWAT analysis of positives and negatives of each model.
Lydia still wanted to innovate and to try out ideas for projects and programmes incorporating Makaton ™. The Big Red Kick incubated SEND support to run programmes initially with practical support, so that through evaluating pilot programmes to explore the model that was right for SEND Support.
Lydia opted to set up as self employed, specialising in private contracts for individuals and organisation’s and to access small pots of funding where individuals can apply and to stay true to her values.
Clare and Lydia developed a business development strategy that blended fundraising and commercial contracting which has led to grant funding in deprived communities and larger private contacts in schools and with the NHS.
