Greenwich has the fifth largest Ukrainian population in the UK. Following the invasion of Ukraine by Russia and Ukrainian new arrivals in the borough Royal Borough of Greenwich commissioned The Big Red Kick to coproduce a new arrivals caseworker programme utalising the skills and experience of the resident Ukrainian community.
Coproducing an emergency response
Following the invasion of Ukraine 24 February 2022 Big Red Kick worked closely supporting Ukrainian families living in Greenwich working with its sister charity Big Red Bus Club. We launched a London wide consultation aimed at women already part of the migrant community in the UK, to gauage the support they needed and harnessing thier lived experience of how to support new arrivals. After a series of focus groups with Ukrainain women with specific expertise around one-to-one support and safeguarding. The Big Red Kick facilitated Ukrainian women to self advocate within the multi agency new arrival response . within Greenwich and pan London.
Big Red Kick is working in partnership with Royal Borough of Greenwich to deliver Ukrainian Support Greenwich (USG) a Ukrainian led arrival support project for those arriving into Greenwich.
- Recruited, trained and manged senior leadership and four bi/tri-lingual caseworkers.
- Worked in partnership to inform multi agency response to dynamic needs and centre Ukrainian voices.
- Established voluntary sector multi agency forum.
- Conveyed voluntary sector forum to foster a strategic response to support new arrivals.
- Developed and implemented a new arrival IT casework system and signposting systems across national and local providers.
USG is on the pathway to independence as an organisation by Ukrainian women for Ukrainian women.
